5 Benefits of Giving to Others

5 Benefits of Giving to Others

Yes, when you give to others, you bless the receiver. For example, when you donate to Beyond Conquerors Ministry, you provide food and hygiene products for women in shelters. Everybody understands that you give to help people.

But, have you ever thought about how you personally benefit from giving to others?

It’s true.

Giving opens up your life to blessing.

In this post, you’ll discover the benefits of giving to others. These benefits will help you in your physical and mental health, social connections, raising your kids, and your relationship with God. Read on to find out how.

Donating Makes You Feel Better

According to experts, giving to others actually improves your physical and mental health.

Here’s how. Giving:

  • Decreases stress

  • Lowers blood pressure

  • Improves mood

    Honestly, it makes sense.

When you give, you experience positive feelings. In turn, an increased positive outlook improves your overall happiness. Then, this leads to less stress. And, lowering your stress level lowers your blood pressure.

Therefore, one of the benefits of giving to others is living a happier, longer life.

And, to think, the entire process starts with helping others through giving.

Giving Creates Stronger Social Connections

Now, I know you’re thinking, “How will giving money help me socially?”

Well, let me explain.

When you support a ministry, you become part of something bigger than yourself. You are partnering with that ministry to help others. Essentially, you’ve joined a cause. In itself, this provides you with more social connections, as you belong to a community of fellow partners.

If that isn’t enough, giving to others improves the social connections you already have. This is because giving makes you a better person. It develops empathy, and all of your relationships reflect this empathy.

Financially Supporting a Ministry Enforces an Attitude of Gratitude

Before you give to others, consider how much you should give. This allows you to count your blessings. You can visibly see how blessed you really are.

Now, I know this is a sensitive subject, but it’s a reality. Currently, as you read this, there are people in the world that are less fortunate than you. And, while being empathetic to their situation, you should feel grateful for what you do have.

Even if you’re experiencing difficulties, your situation could always be worse. It’s a matter of perspective.

It’s like the story of the little blind boy.

The Story of the Blind Boy

There was once a little blind boy begging on the street. He held up a sign that said, “I’m blind, please help.” And, he had a hat beside him with a few coins in it.

One day, a man walked by and dropped some coins in the hat. Then, he did something the boy didn’t expect. The boy felt the man take the sign from him. And, he heard the man flip the sign around and write something on it.

Afterwards, the little blind boy received more money from people than he ever had before.

A little while later, the boy heard a man stop beside him. He recognized the man’s voice as the man who wrote on his sign.

The boy asked what he wrote.

The man said, “Same thing as you. I just worded it differently. I wrote, ‘It’s a beautiful day, today, but I can’t see it.”

Moral of the Story

You see, the man changed the perspective of the sign. His message reminded those passing by that they could see the beautiful day while the boy couldn’t.

It forced them to count their blessings and be grateful for the ability to see the beautiful day.

Likewise, giving helps you develop an attitude of gratitude. With an attitude of gratitude, you appreciate what you have because there are others less fortunate than you.

Set an Example for Your Kids

While you don’t give to be seen, it happens. For example, your kids might be curious about why you donate money. And, this provides a great teaching moment.

According to research, kids are born with an innate instinct to share. Unfortunately, over time that instinct diminishes due to experience. Eventually, kids need to be encouraged to give. And, children learn by mimicking the adults around them.

So, one of the benefits of giving to others is that you set an example for your kids. After all, as parents, we want our kids to be caring and kind. And, you can be a proud parent when you see your child sharing with others because they learned it from you.

Strengthen Your Relationship With God Through Giving

Finally, when you donate to a ministry, you are following God’s example. After all, God is the ultimate Giver.J

ohn 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

And, just like your kids learn from imitating you, you learn from imitating God. If you want to grow closer to Jesus, you need to imitate Him.

Jesus Himself said, “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many” ( Matthew 20:28).

Therefore, when you give, you’re giving:

  • Following the example Jesus provided for you

  • Honoring His will (Proverbs 3:9)

  • Acknowledging God as your provider

  • Thanking God for providing for you

  • Serving others

  • Sharing the love of Christ

Ultimately, such actions will strengthen your faith in God and your relationship with Him.

Most importantly, giving pleases God. After all, “God loves a cheerful giver” ( 2 Corinthians 9:7).

These Benefits of Giving to Others Belong to You When You Give

As you can see, the 5 benefits of giving to others are:

  • Better physical and mental health

  • Stronger social connections

  • Developing an attitude of gratitude

  • Setting an example for your children

  • Strengthen your relationship with God

Honestly, supporting a ministry just feels good because it’s doing good works.

And, God honors doing good works.

After all, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).
